The Appeal
The Series IIA Land Rover represents the marque at its most honest and characterful: a simple, robust workhorse that has proven its worth on farms, estates, and challenging terrain across the globe for decades.
This 1969 short-wheelbase example boasts a remarkable ownership history that speaks volumes about its reliability and appeal. Purchased new by Lancashire land agents Robinson & Spengler Ltd, it was sold in 1982 to its second keeper, Mr M. Pin, who used it daily for 43 years to tend his sheep in the Lancashire hills. During his stewardship, Mr Pin invested in significant upgrades, including a galvanised chassis and a complete engine rebuild in the late 1990s, ensuring the Land Rover's longevity.
The current owner acquired this Series IIA in August 2025 and promptly invested £9,000 in bringing it up to scratch. A comprehensive £6,000 recommissioning at Hayward Revive Land Rover Specialist in Norfolk addressed the suspension, brakes, steering, cooling system, and running gear, whilst new seats, canvas, floor mats, rear benches, and seatbelts were also fitted. The brief was clear: retain the character but ensure mechanical excellence.
The result is a Series IIA that drives very well and is ready to be enjoyed. With its genuine working history, thoughtful upgrades, and recent comprehensive attention, this is an opportunity to acquire a well-sorted example.DSC08924.jpg956.28 KB
