The Appeal
From the day it met the London Motor Show in 1962, the Spitfire became something special. A true best-of-British roadster, with nimble, compact proportions and plenty of character. The car was a work of gentle evolution rather than ever particularly revolutionary. The MK4 offered a revised shape, a more refined cabin, and altogether felt more civilised than its predecessors - without losing an ounce of raw charm.
This 1971 example in Mallard Blue benefited from a comprehensive restoration in 2014/15 and has since led a gentle life, used for vintage shows and summer runs with the roof down. Waxoyled, kept in dry storage, and complete with hard top, it ticks all of the boxes. It remains entirely standard with no modifications, and the vendor describes it as 'beautiful to drive.'
Accompanied by an MOT until March 2027, this handsome, tidy little Spitfire is now ready and waiting for its lucky new keeper.image.png1.26 MB

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
