Back in the early '70s the popularity of recreational dirt bike riding had exploded, with famous riders like Steve McQueen and Bud Ekins tearing up the countryside in between filming the next Hollywood blockbuster. Everybody wanted in on the action and the major motorcycle manufacturers at the time were all too happy to oblige, including Yamaha.
Yamaha introduced its first off-road model, the air-cooled single-cylinder 250cc DT-1 in '68, and as far as reliable bikes go it was as tough as they come. Remaining in production for 17 years, such was its popularity, the DT model received numerous updates over that time but the bike's reliability and ease of maintenance remained consistent throughout.
This particular DT is a 1973 model that was imported from America in 2015 by DK motorcycles of Stoke on Trent. The current owner subsequently bought it from DK motorcycles in 2016 and has spent many hours and considerable amounts of money completely restoring it to its original condition. This metallic green model was only produced for one year in '73, making it a highly sought after and incredibly collectible machine.
Whether you're after an iconic '70s dirt bike or are looking for your first classic motorcycle, you can do a lot worse than this beautifully restored 1973 Yamaha DT 250.image.png4.21 MB
