The Appeal
The C3 Corvette really is an all-American marvel. The coke-bottle-styled Stingray was one of the all-time greatest triumphs in US motoring. With its lightweight fibreglass body, swathe of big old engines and slick styling, this car really represented Chevrolet at their ultimate excess, with the Targa-topped coupe becoming one of the most iconic cars ever built.
The Convertible, though, is a little more scarce. The 1970s were beginning to see convertibles fall out of favour, and the soft-top Corvette was no exception. They disappeared from the range in 1975, having accounted for less than 12% of total sales. It's, as a result, the most collectable of the cars by far - especially in a highly original, unmodified form.
That's why this particular example is expected to garner plenty of well-deserved interest. It's a remarkably original car, right down to factory stickers under the bonnet. Imported from the USA in 1998 and having passed through only four sets of hands from new, it's a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We rarely see a C3 Convertible at all, but one in this state of preservation is almost unheard of.
For the past four years, it has been kept in climate-controlled secure storage when not in use, and by all accounts is ready and waiting to drive away with its lucky new owner.
