Launched in 1965, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was one for the rich, famous, or extremely lucky. The luxurious Crewe based manufacturer undoubtedly created one of the best-crafted and technologically advanced vehicles of its day.  

At 48 years old, this beautifully presented Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I has been with the same family since it was registered in 1974. Covering just 39,311 miles, the luxurious saloon has clearly been well cared for over its time with the family. 

Luxurious and comfortable is the only way to describe the stunning interior of the Silver Shadow I. The condition of the seats for the age of the car is excellent. As you would expect, there is some light patina to the driver’s seat, but the passenger seat does not look to have had a significant amount of use. The rear seat also has some patina across the base, and looking at the British Telecom car phone; it is possible the car was used sometimes to chauffeur a business person. The door cards are also in good order, with just some patina visible on the leather armrests. The wood door cappings are in excellent condition with no signs of cracking to the clear lacquer. 

The dashboard of the Rolls-Royce is also finished in black with a wooden fascia. The instruments are reported to work as expected, with the odometer showing a reading of just 39,311 miles. The switchgear is all excellent and has little signs of any wear. To the centre is the Stereo 8 Radiomobile, complete with some 8-track tapes, so you can be chauffeured around relaxing, listening to some Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Mozart or Beethoven; the choice is yours.   

In the front, the wool carpet mats are in excellent condition and in the rear, the footrests are also present. Looking up, the headlining sits nice and tight with no staining. Inside the boot is again clean and tidy, with the tool kit present along with the original jack.  

Externally the Rolls-Royce is in excellent condition. It does appear to have had some areas touched up over the years, but this is difficult to spot, and it has kept the silver shadow looking very fresh in its coat of Silver Chalice Metallic. The door gaps are matching, as are the boot and bonnet. Everything opens and closes as it should, and there are no dings or dents. 

Looking from the front of the car, you first notice the iconic Rolls-Royce grille with the Spirit of Ecstacy lady sitting pride of place. This is in excellent condition, along with the chrome bumper and headlight surrounds. The headlights and indicators are free from splits or cracks, and the Lucas foglights have the covers in place. 

With just over 5m of smooth flanks, the Rolls is nice and straight, and the chrome work is in excellent condition around the windows and door handles. The windows all appear to be in good condition with no noticeable scratches. However, a small amount of delamination has started on the rear window.  

The wheels are in good condition and are fitted with the original hubcaps, which are also in good order, and the tyres are a matching set with a good amount of tread remaining. 

Turn the key, and you can hear the six and three-quarter turn over with ease, but then you need a keen ear to listen to tell if it's running; it is so smooth. The car is reported to pull well through the gears, and the change is effortless. 

The underside presents very well, with no areas of concern noted. The braking system was given a complete overhaul in March 2021, at 38,979 miles, totalling £1,575. This has ensured everything is working as it should, with no issues reported. 

The Silver Shadow is in extremely good condition and presents very well. Covering just 39,311 miles, you could say the 6.75 litre V8 is barely even run in. Although the V5 says three previous keepers, these are reported by the vendor to be from the same family.
