The Appeal
The Volkswagen Camper is so iconic that you'd be hard-pressed to find somebody who hasn't seen one. These simple little surfer buses have become synonymous with the free-spirited lifestyle of the 60s and 70s. It's easy to see why; the Type 2 was affordable, easy to look after and offered just enough comfort for those seeking a leisurely little home away from home.
This 1974 example stems from the final year of right-hand drive conversions from the Westfalia workshops. While Volkswagen never changed focus, Westfalia became overwhelmed by US demand. From then on, UK and European conversions were largely undertaken by the likes of Devon and Dormobile.
It's a handsome, brightly coloured bus that maintains plenty of originality and some deeply evocative retro styling. The checked camping interior is every bit as distinctive as you'd expect from a 70s bus, and we understand that the entire vehicle was subject to a rebuilt in 2018. The result is an undoubtedly fine example.
