The Background
The VW Split Screen Microbus is a piece of automotive design that will live on forever, anything that came out of the VW plant back in the early 50’s is now an iconic. Even someone who does not like cars that much will still be able to point out a split screen and smile with thanks to its classic lines.
Without this Type 2 platform we may never of had the pleasure of the Camper Van. This Split Screen however is in the micro bus configuration with enough space for 9 passengers and enough luggage space to back this up. Details (37).jpg3.85 MB
The History
This VW split screen has been shipped over from Brazil where it has gone through a lengthy restoration period looking at the interior, running gear and the exterior.
It’s with thanks to this painstaking process that we are now presented with a bus that looks just as good if not better than it did when it rolled off the production line all of those years ago.Details (27).jpg2.43 MB
The Paperwork
There is some paperwork that comes with this car to detail some works that have been done to achieve this look, but on the day of the photoshoot it was not present.Interior (22).jpg3.73 MB
The Interior
The interior has had some time spent on it like the rest of the bus. The seats have been privy to some new upholstery in a lovely two-tone pattern with the cream inserts being a similar colour to that of the exterior the seats are just as comfortable as you’d imagine from a bench seat and there is more than enough leg room due to the length of the vehicle.
Up front in the cab all of the knobs, dials and steering wheel are also finished in that lovely cream colour too and all look stunning.Interior (26).jpg2.71 MB
The Exterior
The exterior of this bus is in amazing condition, although this has come across the ocean in a container you wouldn’t be able to tell, everything on the outside of the bus is like new.
The bright work is just that, bright, and there is a lot of chrome on show, the massive VW logo on the front is displayed proudly for all to see and all of the little chrome accents throughout the exterior really add to the charm of this little bus.
One of the standout features on the exterior is the split wooden roof racks that sit neatly on the roof, attached to the rear section of the rack is a ladder and any car with a ladder on it is instantly cool.
The wheels and tires are also in great condition too, they really help to seal the whole retro vibe that this bus gives off.Exterior (2).jpg2.68 MB
The Mechanics
Like any Type two bus this is fitted with the famous air-cooled VW H4 engine which is just such a beautiful piece of engineering.
This one runs great having just been through a rebuild over in Brazil and this rebuild is why the odometer now only reads 47km everything has been looked over through the re-build process and now because of this the mechanical parts are in great condition. Engine Bay (1).jpg3.25 MB
The Appeal
This Bus speaks for itself. If you want a well put together and recently restored VW Type 2 bus, then look no further. This has to be one of the best examples on the market today with all the little bits that have been done throughout the restoration period you can imagine that this is a great example of an iconic vehicle.
The next owner of this bus will have the opportunity to tour the world in comfort and style. With it being a Split-Screen people will always treasure them and this should unlock a new touring lifestyle with the chance to join in with many VW specific shows across the globe.
