- Pivotal Japanese superbike
- Very smart in black with gold trim Z1
- Gold alloy wheels, low seat and mono shock
The Appeal
Kawasaki was close to launching its new superbike when Honda unveiled the fantastic CB750. Realising it had been outclassed, the firm went back to the drawing board with one goal: to best its local rivals. The result was this bike, the Z1, with its innovative DOHC that eliminated the heavy rocker arms and pushrods of the SOHC Honda to be both lighter and much more tuneable.
That extra work makes the Z1 the blueprint for all future superbikes. No surprise then that good examples are revered by collectors. Here is exactly that, a 1975 model in black with gold pin-striping. It presents very well, retaining original ‘75 features like the ‘10mph’ increment speedo with desirable upgrades like gold alloys, lowered seat and mono shock.
In good condition and clearly cherished, this bike would grace any serious collection.
