The Appeal
The Spitfire has a special place in the classic world because it was many enthusiasts’ first introduction to a type of motoring removed from the regular, humdrum world of family saloons. It was many press-on drivers’ first car, and it remains a perennial of the classic scene.
The later cars got Michelotti’s ‘Kamm Tail’ design refresh that still looks sharp today, 46 years after the last cars rolled off the Canley lines. This 1979 1500 is one of the last built, now painted in classic sports car red but otherwise largely as it left the factory. It is in good, usable condition, with scope for the buyer to improve some relatively easy cosmetic wins like the interior if they wish, or simply use as it is.
The seller acquired the car in 2023 and has used it sparingly but maintained it properly. Work has included a recent service plus replacing the gearbox, differential, brake and clutch fluids. We’re told that new discs and pads have been fitted and the carburettors tuned. With Spring now here, what better time to jump in and discover the simple joys of Triumph’s brilliant Spitfire?

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
