The Appeal
The R107-generation SL is one of Mercedes-Benz's most enduring sports cars, and the 280 SL sits at the heart of the range. Its M110 inline-six, a 2.8-litre twin-cam unit producing 185bhp in European trim, is widely regarded as the sweet spot of the range; a willing, rev-happy engine that is simpler and more affordable to maintain than the V8 alternatives. European-specification cars, with their slim chrome bumpers and elegant single headlamp units, are particularly sought after for their fidelity to Paul Bracq's original design.
