The Appeal
When DeTomaso took over the legendary Maserati brand from Citroën in 1976, the goal was clear: make Maserati profitable again. The spectacular Bora and Khamsin had been technological marvels, but too costly to reach a wider audience. To broaden its appeal, Maserati created a more compact yet truly sporty four-seater – the Biturbo.
Designed to comply with Italian tax laws penalising engines over 2.0 litres, the engineers developed a compact 1996cc V6 fitted with two turbochargers. The result? An impressive 180 horsepower, a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 6.5 seconds, and that unmistakable Maserati soundtrack that even a blindfold couldn’t disguise.
The Biturbo’s luxurious interior reflects true Italian craftsmanship, featuring genuine burl wood and the finest hand-stitched leather. Please take a look at the photos to appreciate the level of finish – even the seats exude elegance and comfort.
This particular Maserati was imported into the Netherlands in 2017. The most recent owner, a well-known engineer, purchased it from the respected Maserati specialist Wim Prins. Under his ownership, the car received thorough maintenance – including fresh brakes, new tires, and a fully functioning ice-cold air conditioning system.
Today, it is offered fully road-ready, complete with a valid Dutch APK (inspection). For the price of an ordinary commuter car, you could have a genuine Maserati parked in your driveway – a piece of Italian engineering heritage with unmistakable charm, sound, and soul.
