The Appeal
In recent years, Alfa Romeo has returned to the idea of turning show cars into low-volume road cars. That theme harks back to this car, the Montreal, which began life as a one-off ‘halo’ car intended to rejuvenate interest in the brand, but became one of the firm’s most interesting and rarest modern classics.
The Montreal is considered a ‘sister car’ to the Lamborghini Miura because designer Gandini revisited some of the same themes with the Alfa Romeo, notably the visual illusion of the B pillar, which implies a mid-engined layout. The car changed considerably from concept to creation, including adding a brand new 2.6L V8 engine that was inspired by the 2L V8 in the 33 Stradale race car. These were expensive cars and just 3,900 were built.
This 1975 car is now painted in one of the car’s signature colours, Bertone Orange, following a full repaint in 2018. The bodywork, paintwork and black leather interior are in really good condition. The same is true of the mechanicals following a £7,000 engine rebuild in 2008.
The car has been in the same family since the early 90s, passing from father to son. Here is a great opportunity to acquire a well-loved, well-maintained example of one of Alfa’s most interesting and stylish coupes.
The vendor says:
“Engine starts and runs very well, plenty of paper work explaining works carried out on it .
“The car drives very well, gearbox a joy to use, and that classic Montreal engine tone is intoxicating.”
