1985 Volkswagen Golf Mk1 Karmann Cabriolet

Pre-bids

Highlights

  • Handsome example with BBS-branded alloy wheels and lowered suspension on adjustable coilovers
  • Original interior retained to factory standard specification
  • Service history available, including stamped maintenance record
  • Road tax/MOT exempt, voluntary MOT valid until June 2027

The Appeal

Cutting the roof off Giorgetto Giugiaro's brilliant Mk1 Golf turned a brilliant hatchback into one of the best convertibles money could buy. Indeed, it proved so popular that the Mk1 Cabriolet outlived its tin-top sibling by 9.5 years, ending production in August 1993.

This 1985 example is reported by the seller to be exceedingly solid. It reportedly retains its original interior and factory standard specification. Upon close inspection, this car reveals itself to be a very good survivor, when many others have succumbed to the ravages of time. The seller notes that the service history is available and that all items flagged on each year's MOT have been addressed, suggesting a conscientious approach to upkeep. It has also benefited from recent mechanical attention and is presented with an MOT valid to June 21, 2027.

The seller reports that the Golf drives well with the top up or down and has attracted many compliments.
