Introduced on Alfa Romeo’s 75th anniversary, the 75 was essentially a substantial facelift of the Giulietta, with distinctive wedge-shaped styling and delightfully boxy proportions.
Always very much on the fringes of the compact executive car market, the 75 was a proper Alfa Romeo – delightfully good fun to drive, with an advanced rear transaxle gearbox arrangement and perfectly-balanced weight distribution.
In 3.0-litre form, the 75 also had the advantage of Alfa Romeo’s glorious ‘Busso’ V6 engine, while the sporting flagship – the Veloce – came with a bulky but not unattractive body kit.
That’s what we have here – a 1989 model with wonderful black coachwork, which has benefitted from some fairly substantial investment in recent years. It’s a lovely old thing, believed to be one of no more than a dozen RHD survivors in this trim level. 20230509_084607.jpg21.89 MB

When it launched the 75, Alfa Romeo was on the brink of bankruptcy. The new saloon was developed on a tight budget, but it gave Alfa back its mojo and was a car admired universally for its wonderful handling, amazing Busso engine and distinctive appearance.
It was a car that may not have sold in huge numbers, but which was loved and adored by enthusiasts of the marque and is today becoming much sought-after, especially in 3.0-litre Veloce flavour. This one’s the real deal – a 100% genuine Veloce in lovely condition inside and out, and which apparently wants for nothing. A genuinely wonderful car.
