The Appeal
With the world’s rallying trophies being scooped up by Audi’s Quattro, Mercedes looked to German’s Touring Car Championship to secure podiums and headlines. To achieve that, it teamed up with Britain’s Cosworth to create the superlative 2.3-16 and then this car, the 2.5-16.
Easily identified by their body cladding, these brutally quick 200bhp cars were planted and dynamic in ways Mercedes cars had rarely, if ever, been before. This 1989 RHD car is one of the later 2.5-16s finished in very popular Smoke Silver metallic with black checkered fabric interior.
We’re told that the car received a restoration with the previous keeper. The vendor acquired the car two and a half years ago and it has been in storage for the last two years. It was recently recommissioned prior to sale, including a new battery, clutch slave cylinder, exhaust repair and new relays. The MOT runs to August 2026.
The 1980s is experiencing something of a renaissance and the 190E Cossie is one of the era’s most desirable saloons. Here’s a chance to discover why.
The vendor says:
“Real head turner, probably the best combo of colour, trim and gearbox. Great to drive, really raspy-sounding engine.”
