The Appeal
The 944 is one of the gems of the Porsche lineup, especially the later models with the more powerful 3L 4-cylinder engine. Beautifully balanced and with few obvious rivals, these well-built cars make excellent touring machines, whether you want it with the roof down or as a coupe.
The later S2 benefited from a whole raft of improvements that are typical of Porsche’s thorough approach to refining its cars throughout their lives. This includes the larger 3L 4-cylinder engine, which gives the car the power to match the chassis’s dynamic character. In this car, it’s paired with the engaging 5-speed manual gearbox.
This car shouldn’t be confused with some of the hard-driven, sparingly maintained examples you can find.
