The Appeal
There’s always something imperious about the appearance of a Bentley, and the 1990s Turbo R is a particularly imposing vehicle. Over 17 feet in length and based on the Mulsanne chassis, this gentleman’s express didn’t need to flaunt the power generated by its turbocharged 6.75-litre V8. It’s the ultimate iron fist in a velvet glove – brutally fast yet astonishingly refined.
This 1994 Turbo R was acquired by its current owner in 2024 and has since had thousands of pounds spent on everything from its brakes and suspension to a non-opening boot. Its two previous owners had also clearly cherished it, with an extensive bundle of receipts, invoices and other paperwork included with the car. The Tudor Red paint is in good condition overall, which is perhaps in part because the car didn’t cover any mileage between 2008 and 2023. Since then, it has been lightly used.
The true magic lies inside any Bentley, and this model was appointed with a Magnolia hide interior finished with St James Red piping, with a matching Magnolia parcel shelf and headlining. The dashboard bears light patina on its plastics, yet the walnut trim is in superb condition, with the classic eight-dial display and chrome switchgear not diminished by the presence of a Blaupunkt CD player. The deep-pile carpet mats show signs of wear, but the door cards have been superbly well preserved, and the burgundy carpet-lined boot is almost as new.
Described by its present custodian as being “superb to drive and waft around in with a surprising amount of straight line speed”, this Turbo R was originally sold with a six-figure price. Today, it offers the same luxury and indulgence at a fraction of the cost.
