The Appeal
When Mercedes saw the M5's success, it wanted a piece of the action. With its own engineers busy creating the $ 1 billion W140, the firm turned to Porsche for help. The result was the W124 E500, a 322bhp V8-engined super saloon. Porsche developed and engineered it using the big M119 5L V8 and fitted it with sports suspension and heavy-duty brakes. Production was moved to Porsche’s own factory because its 56mm wider track was too much for Mercedes' own factory. Each one was largely hand-built and took 18 days from start to finish.
The E500 then has fine pedigree. This USA-market 194 car goes even further, because we're told that this stealthiest of super saloons was used by the FBI to discreetly track mafia suspects. These cars are ideally suited to high mileage, and despite this one having been used and enjoyed, its silver metallic paintwork and beige leather cabin all present well.
The vendor bought the car in 2025 and says European duties and taxes have been paid. Local registration is pending. The car is said to run and drive well with no faults. For those seeking an E500 with a story unlike any other, this is a compelling proposition.
