The Appeal
Just like the original 6-Series before it, BMW’s 90s GT reboot, the 8-Series, is garnering serious reappraisal. These stylish shark-nosed cars showcased the best of BMW from the era and make highly capable, well-built alternatives to more boutique British and Italian coupes.
The 840 sold in the UK in similarly small volumes to Aston’s DB7, so it is equally rare. This Arktis Silver 840CI is an early car with the 4L M60 282bhp V8 engine and is barely run in by the standards of that powerplant. It is in fine condition throughout, helped by a 2022 respray and recommissioning by a BMW specialist. We’re told it has been dry stored since, which is supported by the MOT history showing barely 200 miles covered. The MOT runs to December 2026 with no advisories.
This is a fine example of a car built to trounce all those British and Italian GTs.
