The BMW 8 Series was launched in 1990 as a step-up from their extent 6 series. This was the new peak of Bavarian touring, with imposing styling and a swathe of big, powerful engines. The focus on luxury set it on a price point that exceeded any other car the marque had built.
It was quite the investment for BMW, too - one of the most expensive projects they had ever embarked upon. Tragically, the economic crash of the '90s put an end to a beautiful dream before it began, and by the end of production, the 8 Series had shifted only 30,609 units worldwide.
On the upside, that means it's now an increasingly rare classic.
