The Appeal

The Peugeot 106 XSI sits amongst the purest expressions of the lightweight French hot hatch formula. Its high-revving 1.3-litre TU3FJ2 engine, short-ratio five-speed gearbox, and unassisted mechanical steering deliver an analogue driving experience that's increasingly prized in the modern age of increasingly electronic machines. Surviving Phase 1 examples in original, unmodified condition have become genuinely scarce.

This 1996 example has spent its life in the dry Portuguese climate, well away from salted winter roads - something that most 106s simply can't boast. It retains its factory XSI-specification trim, sports seats, and switchgear, with no aftermarket additions. A rare proposition that ticks plenty of boxes.
