The Appeal
The Continental R was the first true stand-alone Bentley after decades of badge-engineered Rolls-Royce derivatives. It was quite the return to grace for the marque. It was one of the most expensive cars on the market, and amongst the fastest full-sized, four-seat tourers on the planet, thanks to the impressive hand-built 6.75-litre V8 under the car's prodigious nose. Sophisticated, rugged and fast - a plush cocoon for the well-to-do driver.
This 1998 example wears the striking multi-layer iridescent Peacock Blue paintwork and shows 40,565 miles on the odometer. It has been part of a five-car collection since February 2020, covering just 1,281 miles in that time, and has been maintained by marque specialists throughout. A major service was carried out in February 2025 at 40,468 miles, encompassing four new tyres, rear accumulator brake spheres and an air conditioning service, with only 97 miles added since. The water pump and engine belts were also renewed in 2020.
Stored under a heavy-duty lined cover and regularly aired, this is a handsome, very desirable example. With its MOT valid to February 2027 and a recent major service behind it, it's a fine opportunity to acquire one of the great British grand tourers of the era.bentley-1.jpg184.73 KB

I guess that one of the other things I should mention is that the wheels are so big, and combined with high sidewalls compared to modern cars, as well as air suspension, it copes really well with pot holes. It’s not invulnerable to them, but you stand a much better chance of avoiding pothole damage if you do hit one.

Is the steering wheel adjustable for reach and rake ?

Yes, the steering wheel is electrically adjustable for both height and reach. The wheel also automatically rises to allow easier entry and exit when you come and go from the car. It’s rather satisfying to watch and be ‘greeted’ by the car in this way.
