The Appeal
The R129’s ‘hewn from stone’ feel, plus its handsome Sacco lines, explains the car’s enduring appeal. Even within a lineage where every model is sought after, it is arguably the one to have, particularly if you plan to use and enjoy your SL.
Later cars like this one gained the more efficient and economical M112 221bhp 3.2L V6, plus a range of facelift features, notably body colour panels and clear indicators. It is one of the rare factory-supplied ‘AMG Edition’ cars that got the styling pack, wheels and other accoutrements associated with the high-performance models. These additions were part of a near £10,000 list of options fitted by the first keeper, which also includes the desirable Brilliant Silver panoramic glass roof option and upgraded audio. When new, the purchase price was the equivalent of £155,000.
This very well kept car is painted in rare, eye catching Magma Red, a colour traditionally associated with AMG models. It is matched with a black leather interior trimmed in burr walnut. The sub-80,000 miles is barely run for a M112-engined car and is supported by a run of regular maintenance. The current MOT underlines the point - it runs to April 2027 with no advisories.
