The early TT is becoming a very rare sight on our roads, and one that has covered so few miles while in the keep of just one owner is extremely rare. This 225 bhp version with Audi’s Quattro transmission is a true icon and in fabulous overall condition. Little used and kept under cover all its life, this one-owner machine still packs a punch and will turn heads just as much today as it did 23 years ago. And as we often say, “Find me another”.

While in the owner’s keep, this car has been treated to regular servicing at local trusted garages. It has always been kept in dry conditions when not used and has recently been stored long-term. Following a period off the road, the car was MOT’d which showed some work being required on the brakes and some suspension components. The work has been carried out at a cost of just over £1000 and a new MOT test taken. The car stands on very clean wheels and new tyres and is ready to go. Although there is no paperwork to prove it, the owner insists that the cambelt has been changed

The interior of an Audi is always purposeful and well laid out, and the TT is no exception. All the switchgear on this car appears to function well and feel satisfyingly new. The leather-clad steering wheel shows a little wear but will polish up well, as will the seats which are still very supportive and display some attractive ageing without obvious wear.

There’s an original stereo which hides behind a drop-down silver cover that when closed gives a lovely smooth appearance to the dash. The upper dashboard is in very good condition and has been saved from any sun damage due to the car being stored under cover. The only aspect that a new owner may want to pursue is to have the air conditioning recharged as it blows cool but not cold.

It is very clear from the overall condition of this TT that it has been spared the rigours of the weather and 23 years of use. The car has been used sparingly over these years and has always been garaged, resulting in what can only be described as a car in extremely good condition for its age. The paintwork shows very little evidence of being 23 years old and there are no obvious bumps, scrapes or repairs. 

The headlamps are as clear and free from any UV damage as if they were new. The wheels, which are factory standard fit, are also very clean and undamaged and are shod with tyres that have been replaced recently and have plenty of tread depth. 

The underside has not been fully inspected, but the photographs taken at ground level appear to show it to be in good order with a good deal of rust-proofing applied. The single area of obvious corrosion is on the forward part of the roof rail insert on the driver’s side, a minor blemish on what is otherwise a seemingly very clean car.

The recent minimal use of this delightful TT has led to it failing an MOT on some steering and braking issues, all of which have been fully remedied at some cost. However, that does now give the car a fresh MOT certificate with no advisories which will undoubtedly instil quite a bit of confidence for the new owner. 

The engine is smooth and quiet and has not been tuned or tinkered with as many of this type are, no Boy Racer dump valves for this car. It has not been serviced through Audi, but through trusted local Engineers and although there is no paperwork to prove it, the Owner insists that the cambelt and water pump have been changed. That said, the engine is free of any unwanted noises and the fumes are clear from start-up.

Clean and straight is the simple description of this early-generation TT. It has had something of a charmed life being spared lots of use and as it has been housed under cover when not in use, the bodywork is exceptional in appearance. The TT has always been a head-turner and many would say that the early versions were the prettiest and the most popular, certainly this one stands out from the crowd. 

Often the TT received a host of tuning parts and tweaks by those seeking to stand out even more, but not this one, here’s a car that is exactly as Audi intended and is all the better for it. The very low miles and overall condition make this little Germanic gem hard to resist, so don’t hang around because this TT won’t.
