The Appeal
When it came to the new 9-3, General Motors tasked Saab with modifying the Vauxhall Vectra. Of course, Saab being Saab, the Trollhattan engineers ignored that dictate so entirely that little was carried over, the Swedish firm having decided it couldn’t compromise on safety and driving dynamics. The 9-3 also, thankfully, retained the Saab ‘slant four’ 2L engine, which in post-2000 cars like this one was heavily revised into the B205L variant.
All of which are strong reasons to want this rather handsome Cosmic Blue 9-3 SE Turbo. Judging by the condition and exceptionally low mileage of under 14,000 miles, it is likely one of the best available. It’s the right specification too, being equipped with the 185bhp turbocharged engine that is only marginally less potent than the ‘HOT’ models.
The vendor is only the third keeper. He acquired the car in late 2020 and it is fair to say has maintained it meticulously. Despite covering less than 3,000 miles in the intervening five years it has been serviced four times, most recently in June 2025 less than 100 miles ago. Other work has included fitting an uprated breather kit and new anti roll bar. The MOT history shows just one advisory since 2006 - for a wiper blade. The current test runs to late June 2026 with no advisories.
Aside from the provenance and the turbocharged power, this 9-3 represents a great set of summer wheels. There’s space for four, a decent boot, and, being a Saab, it is as comfortable as any car built in the last 30 years. Definitely one for the summer. image.png1.93 MB
