The Appeal

Here's something for Formula One purists - a 4.5m by 1.8m replica of a Ferrari Formula One single-seater entirely crafted from wood. This detail might surprise you, as the workmanship is so exceptional that its wooden origins aren't immediately obvious.

The car was the brainchild of Belgian master craftsman Michel Keysers, who completed it in 2001. Inspired by the Ferrari F 2001, this highly detailed recreation demanded hundreds of hours of labor. It speaks volumes about Keysers' dedication and perhaps his eccentricity that during construction he wore a red racing suit to get into the spirit of things.

The quality, as you can see from the photos, is impressive. Finished in Ferrari livery with period-correct decals, it was specifically designed to be sat in. The 25 signatures from F1 drivers, positioned on the front splitters, are a nice touch. The car is entirely wooden except for the bolts holding it together. We're told these allow it to be disassembled in 45 minutes, making it easy to transport.

The car comes with an extensive collection of newspaper and magazine articles as well as a list of its television appearances. In excellent condition and almost certainly irreplaceable, it's a fascinating design piece for F1 enthusiasts.
