The Appeal
There are many versions of the classic Mini Cooper, but the final Sport 500 is amongst the rarest and most significant. It marked the sad end of production and featured an array of bespoke features that elevate it above contemporary Coopers.
Each Sport 500 was finished in exclusive colour combinations and featured 13in Sportpack alloys, wider arches, four auxiliary lights, two tone Nickel Silver and black interior, engine-turned aluminium dashboard and chrome dial bezels. Just 108 were sold in this car’s Anthracite black with platinum silver roof, of which only 43 were registered as ‘X’ reg models.
This car retains its Sport 500 factory features and is largely standard, save for the fitment of uprated GAZ shock absorbers which masively improve the ride without compromise, it’s five keepers have largely resisted its go-kart charms and kept the mileage below 47,000 miles in its 25 years.
It benefits from a long list of recent refurbishments. Notable highlights include, replacement brake discs, pads and lines, new clutch slave cylinder, wheel refurbishment and new tyres, new thermostat and coolant flush, full service incl all fluids, fuel filter full brake refurbishment incl new lines, wheel cylinders and shoes, new uprated discs and those GAZ shocks. The underside has been cleaned and treated to preserve the condition. The current MOT runs to November 2026 with no advisories.
The vendor says:
“A good example of the very rare Cooper Sport 500, complete with the certificates proving its provenance. Relatively low ownership. A comprehensive service history with a stamped service book, the full set of keys, along with the owner's book pack. A file with receipts and MOTs going back to the beginning, including the original bill of sale.”
