The Appeal

The R230 makes a strong case for being all the roadster you’ll ever need, particularly when equipped with the burbling 5L 300bhp V8 as here. This was the car that showcased Mercedes’ clever folding hardtop, giving buyers full coupe or sun-kissed convertible modes.

This Brilliant Silver SL500 must be one of the lowest mileage examples to come to market in recent times. It has covered less than 29,000 documented miles in the hands of two keepers. The current keeper acquired it from a friend and has continued the theme of regular maintenance. The car was last serviced in May 2025. The MOT runs to June 2026.

The car is in very good order, just a few light age-related points to note such as frontal stone chips and extremely light bolster wear. The former barely show on a silver car. Adding to its appeal is the specification, which includes a panoramic glass roof, upgraded BOSE sound system and ash tree veneers. It is all well kept and evidence of a clearly cherished car.

“Solid, distinctive, modern classic sports car with all the benefits of a soft top but with the convenience of an attention-grabbing electric fold-out hard top. Spares and servicing readily available, drives well, comfortable ride without the bone-shaking suspension of a sports car, economic on long runs, 23-25 mpg, that is, if you can resist just putting your foot down to enjoy the exhaust note! I have loved this car, but I do not get the free time to make the best use of it, and it needs to be used and cherished.
