The Appeal
The Cross Country was Piaggio’s bid to broaden the Ape workhorse’s appeal to a younger, more style-orientated audience. The company had in mind surfers or trendy city teens and fitted it with a roll bar and upgraded sound system. There were also snazzy colour schemes.
Today it is a very rare variant of the otherwise very popular Ape, and collectible too. This 2005 example exhibits all the features that made the Cross Country stand out from the standard models - roll cage, nudge bar and the jazzy colour scheme, including yellow seats.
It is in usable, presentable condition. There is scope to improve the cosmetics, but this is a commercial vehicle after all.
