The Appeal
Many companies have tried and failed to topple the Land Rover’s Defender ‘best four by four by far’ crown, but none have succeeded. The original’s combination of go-anywhere capability and rugged durability has proven to be a hard nut to crack. But then, by the time the Defender arrived in 1990, the firm had been perfecting the concept for over 40 years.
The Defender received a major overhaul in 2007 that delivered lightly updated aesthetics, a new interior, and a more modern engine and drivetrain. Corrosion resistance was also improved and these models are particularly sought after.
This is one of those later Defenders, smartly finished in discreet and popular Bonatti Grey metallic. It is a high-specification XS model with full service history to support its very low mileage. This Defender was first registered in September 2009, making it one of the first to benefit from the comprehensive enhancements of Spring 2007. These included a new Ford Duratorq 2.4litre diesel engine, 6spd manual gearbox, revised seating layout and mildly altered aesthetics. The interior was also enhanced with a new full-width dashboard and instrumentation from the Discover 3. At the same time, corrosion resistance was improved.
