The Appeal

The R230 was the fifth generation of Mercedes’ ‘Sport Leicht’ roadster and the first all-weather version. Its clever folding hard top solved a problem that had beset owners for decades - namely switch and storing the hard top – and pioneered a system subsequently widely adopted by competitors.

No wonder that these cars are increasingly popular with enthusiast and those who love driving with the top down. The SL550 was the American name given to the European SL500 and fitted with the 5.5L M273 390bhp V8 engine. These cars are quick and serene ways to cover any distance, especially when they are fitted with this car’s $13,000 of factory options.

The extra fittings include AMG sports package, the COMAND system and Advanced Body Control suspension set up. It is a really attractive car that eschews the regular silver paint and black leather in favour of rare Thulite Red metallic with a beige leather cabin. The car is well kept, recently arrived from the USA and would make a great European road trip companion.
