The Appeal
Good as the original 306bhp SL500 is, the 2007 model year introduced a raft of improvements that make these later cars sought-after. In came the new M273 382bhp 5.5L V8, 7spd 7G-TRONIC auto to replace the old 5spd unit and the clever adaptive ABS suspension was heavily revised. All changes that make these big, relaxing GTs serious high-speed mile-munchers.
This Iridium Silver SL500 is an early example of that improved car and adds an impressive factory specification to its appeal. The five-spoke 19in AMG alloys are obvious in the photos, but perhaps less immediate will be the sought-after panoramic roof, Bose sound, vented seats and Designo interior trim. It all remains in very good order thanks to the low mileage for the year and the evident care of its handful of keepers.
The latter point is obvious from the service history. It shows a run of regular attention by main dealers and, latterly, blue-chip marque specialists like Colin Ferns. In 2026 alone the car received close to £4,500 of work by Ferns covering servicing, brake fluid change, front brake discs, minor repairs and an a/c system overhaul.
The vendor bought the car in 2021 and tells us that it has been properly looked after and runs very well. He is only selling as he now as a young family. That much is confirmed by the current MOT, which runs to June 2027. A very tidy example of the much-improved later SL500.
The vendor says:
“The mechanical condition is excellent. Everything is working properly, there are no warnings or errors, and the vehicle has been carefully maintained as detailed above.
“This is an enormously fun car to own and drive. It feels solid, drives perfectly, stays planted on the road and is comfortable over long distances. Sad to let it go, but I have a young family now and want it to go to someone who will use it and enjoy it just as much as I have.
