The Appeal

Taking its starting point from the W140, the last of Mercedes’ ‘engineering led’ cars, the W240 Maybach was then developed to be, quite simply the best limousine in the world. But then resurrecting a brand that used to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bugatti was never about cutting corners.

Hence the rarity and price of this RHD 57. It is believed one of just 12 sold in the UK in this specification and cost an eye-watering £278,000 when new, equivalent to £484,000 today. Finished in very rare Caspian Black with matching interior, it is a fine example that has coverd less than 49,000 miles in the hands of just four keepers.

The current keeper acquired the car in 2022 and tells us that he has subsequently covered just 3,000 miles. That has helped keep the car in fine order, as you can see in the photos. Despite the sparing use, the car has been well maintained and with the exception of one service by a Mercedes specialist, always maintained by Maybach main dealers. The last service was in October 2025, under 1,000 miles ago, subsequent to which the car went to Mercedes Epsom for £2,000 of remedial work.

This Maybach 57 is the pinnacle of a very Germanic obsession with engineering excellent. It’s the kind of limousine that makes a Rolls-Royce seem commonplace and, quite possibly, not well built. Definitely one for the collectors.
