THE APPEAL
Seven seaters. They’re often a necessity and rarely a type of vehicle you buy for the love of cars.
But there are some exceptions that prove the rule and one look at this fabulous old wagon does wonders for the appeal of cars that you can enjoy owning while still having a large family – just look at it!
Finished in Obsidian Black and with an AMG styling and lowering kit fitted from new, it’s a fine-looking beast of a car that’s equally suited to ferrying the kids and dogs, or doing tip runs.
The “W211” E-Class is also one of the best Mercedes models of its era. The estate version was even good enough to knock the Volvo V70 off its estate car perch in both the What Car? and Auto Express awards back in 2003 when it first appeared.

The E320 was sold to its first “real” owner in December 2003 after starting its life as a dealership demo in the North-West, so far as we could ascertain from the paperwork.
The car is part of a private collection. The vendor acquired this particular vehicle from a lady owner who had owned it since 2007 but never used it, hence the incredible low mileage. The keeper before her was a male with the the same surname which leads us to believe it was a husband/partner/family member- from the same Lancashire town and had used it for less than four years.
It has a wallet full of booklets and manuals and a service book stamped to 36,000 miles in 2006 concurrent with its first MOT, so it’s possible that the owner passed away and the car was bequeathed to a relative or friend.
It’s not known for sure, but it would explain why it was kept and stored. It also appears to have been given an oil change and basic service annually, despite covering less than two miles between each one and not being MOT’d.
There are receipts included for the work, from a mobile mechanic, so its’ entirely possible that the one or two miles it covered were done by him.
For most of its life the Mercedes wore a cherished registration number, which has been retained by the owner, hence the blank plates in the photos. Trimmed in immaculate pale grey leather, it’s obvious from the overall condition that this is a genuine low-mileage car. It’s in terrific order, with a cabin that still looks inviting and fresh today.
Everything works including the Mercedes-Benz COMAND infotainment system, which has integrated sat nav as well as controls for the vehicle settings and stereo. The only minor glitch is an odometer and temperature display that sometimes flickers on and off thanks to LDC bleed, though it can be read.

This has to be one of the most handsome estate cars ever made, and in Obsidian Black with AMG styling elements it comes into its own.
The car also has AMG suspension, which sits about 35mm lower than a standard E320. Twin exhaust pipes and Mercedes-Benz-branded Brembo brake callipers complete the stealthy performance look.

Under the bonnet you’ll find Mercedes-Benz’s proven and popular 3.2-litre V6, found in all manner of models from the C-Class through to the SL sports car.
It’s a lively, smooth and responsive unit which in this example works in tandem with a six-speed auto transmission.
Seven-seaters don’t come much sexier than this – a stunning and luxurious wagon with a genuine low mileage.
It’s also exempt from London’s Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) which is just one of the many, many reasons why it’s a far more appealing proposition than a diesel people carrier.
