Besides being a unit of illuminance, 'Lux' is generally known as an abbreviation for Luxury, and is often expressed this way in automotive circles. See Volvo's 'SE Lux' trim spec, for example... With a 'G' prefix, 'G16 LUX' would suit a luxuriously appointed Mercedes-Benz G Wagon, or rally any luxury car, for that matter. 'Gi6' could also spell 'gig', or perhaps even 'big', so would undoubtedly suit myriad applications.

Offered on retention, 'G16 LUX' can be assigned to vehicles registered from August 1989 onwards.
