Description
The P6 or Rover 2000 was launched in 1963 and won car of the year in 1964. It was an advanced design with bolt on panels, disc brakes on all four wheels and de-dion tube rear suspension. The SC version was joined by the TC in 1966 and then in 1968 Rover installed a modified version of the lightweight “Buick” 3500 V8 which gave the car a top speed of over 115mph and 0-60 in around 10 seconds in Automatic form. The P6 stayed in production until 1977.
This car is a P6 3500 in Corsica Blue, registered October 1970 making it one of the very last series 1 cars . The mileage is correct at just 45, 000 from new and it was a one owner car until 2014. The second owner bought it as a bereavement sale and treated it to a comprehensive re-commissioning including engine and gearbox re-build, with virtually every mechanical part replaced or reconditioned and the engine-bay re-furbished to a high standard. Amongst other replacements were a complete stainless exhaust system, four new Verdestein tyres and a discreetly fitted modern radio/ CD. We took the car on as a part finished project and have treated it to another round of spending including a new brake servo and front discs. The body and base unit are in superb order and the interior trim, which is all original is in good condition.
This Rover is in excellent condition rather than concours but it is a complete "one off" and it would be hard to find another with this mileage, condition and level originality. As far as we can see it has not been welded, the panels are original and even the number plates have been on the car since it was new. It has also had substantially more than the asking price spent on it in the last two years......
