The Appeal
The W111 coupe was the last of the series-production, hand-built Mercedes-Benz and, we venture, one of the firm’s prettiest designs. This later ‘low grille’ car’s light and dark blue colour combination highlights just how good Paul Bracq’s work is nearly 60 years after it was completed.
Only 3,797 coupes were built with the M130 165bhp 2.8L engine and only a handful with a manual gearbox. Factory records confirm that this car was built with that rare feature. It is the daily driver of the proprietor of a well known and highly regarded classic car workshop. He has owned it since 2015 and is only reluctantly selling as a recent injury means he requires an auto box.
It is a really lovely car in great condition across the bodywork, paintwork and underside. The interior, in dark blue, is original and would benefit from some work, but likely that can wait as we’re sure the buyer will want to enjoy it first.
As you might expect of a car owned by a classic car professional, it is in superb mechanical order. The engine was rebuilt before he acquired the car, but more recent work - by his workshop Cooper Coachworks - has included a new clutch, exhaust system and front discs and pads. Naturally it has been regularly serviced.
Some older classics are left to moulder away in storage. Not this car. That means it is mechanically sorted and reliable. With such great provenance and scope to add value by updating the interior, this is a rare opportunity for buyers.
The vendor says:
“It's a car you can go anywhere in. Always admired where ever you go.”
