The Appeal
What sets this pretty Bronze Yellow ‘72 B is not just the high standard of presentation. Thanks to the fastidious approach of the previous keeper, who retained it for 40 years, it comes to market with every maintenance record from new. The details include extensive handwritten notes where the previous keeper recorded every fuel fill and journey. It is a treasure trove for the enthusiast.
The car is in very good order as you might expect of such a meticulous approach. It is one of rare the ‘wide mouth’ cars with the Mustang-influenced recessed grille that was produced for a couple of years in the early 70s. Across the bodywork, paintwork and interior it is in very good order.
The car has been converted to unleaded. Recent mechanical work has included a distributor overhaul, new oil cooler and upgraded to a Kenlowe fan. It is the desirable ‘overdrive’ manual gearbox model.
Naturally the car is MOT exempt, but despite this there is a continuous run of MOTs valid up to October 2024. There were no advisories on the last test and the car has covered only 1,000 miles since. Overall, this is a great example of the popular B with fantastic provenance.
The vendor says:
“Thoroughly rewarding drive in what is a stunning, largely original vehicle in almost original specification with only modest mechanical and aesthetic enhancements. Most striking and reassuring feature is the labyrinthine service history and meticulously maintained record of maintenance. A true labour of love over many decades, the car was valued for insurance purposes at £14000 in 2020. Having been cherished and exhibited at shows since the 1980s, this MGB deserves to be in the hands of a dedicated enthusiast.”
