The Appeal
The Triumph Spitfire is renowned for providing affordable driving pleasure in the lightweight British sports car tradition. Styled by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Spitfire was highly popular, remaining in production for over 18 years.
This very well-presented Mk IV, with the updated nose, attractive wheels and larger rear lights, wears its original Saffron Yellow paintwork with black pinstripes and chrome work and comes with the original matching Saffron Yellow removable hard top with glass rear window. The car is described by the owner as “structurally solid”, with a small rust hole on the front left quarter valance and ”no damage from dents or scrapes”.
The all-black interior contrasts nicely with the yellow exterior and is highly original and said to be in good condition, with all interior gauges and electrical items working, with the exception of the radio. The carpet with Triumph logos is original, topped with new floor mats.
During the owner’s two years of ownership. General servicing has been regularly carried out, including spark plugs, oils and coolant. Replacement parts fitted include the starter motor, clutch and brake master cylinders, five new tyres, and a new coolant pump and coolant hoses. The car now has a complete stainless steel exhaust system, including manifold, as well as an additional inline fuel filter, rebuilt rear leaf spring suspension with new Spax shock absorbers, new coil-over front suspension with new Spax shock absorbers and new front anti-roll bar.
Mechanically, the car is described as “problem-free” by the owner, who says they have enjoyed many journeys, including longer trips travelling around England. The brakes are said to be “fine for the size and age of the car but not strong compared to a new system or rebuilt set-up”.
The owner says this car is “a proper joyful classic – a true British sports car that belongs in the country, driving from the beach to the local pub.”
