Highlights
- Rare and well-regarded Apache model
- Classic ‘one lady keeper’ car
- Unrestored time capsule condition with just 53,000 km
- Spent its entire life in the dry Mediterranean climate of South Africa's Western Cape
- Pretty and very original four door automatic saloon
The Appeal
The Apache is a car reserved for South African buyers that really deserved wider application. Based on the excellent AD016, it featured crisp Michelotti styling that echoed his work for Triumph.
Sales were brisk but not vast so any modern survivor is a proper treat. This car is particularly so because it is a highly original, low mileage car that was owned for most of its life by a single lady keeper. Smartly finished in beige with a tan vinyl interior, it is a pretty car with the added advantage of a relaxing automatic gearbox.
It has benefitted from the cossetting South African climate and has been dry stored as part of the vendor’s large private collection. Recent work in preparation for sale includes a full check over and service.
The vendor says:
“If ever the cliché of “owned by a little old lady” rang true, then this Austin Apache is it, one lady owned, driven with gentle care and a feminine touch.
“The subject specimen is in near time capsule condition, having spent the entirety of its life in the verdant, yet dry, Mediterranean climes of the Ceres and Paarl Valleys of the Western Cape Winelands of South Africa.
“Recent money spent on a full once over, the Apache comes loaded with unique charm and appeal, a great choice for lovers of the Issigonis era Mini family. A quant and charming little car, be unique and enjoy a rare piece of history.”
