The Appeal
There’s a good reason why Pininfarina’s clever makeover of the 1968 Jaguar XJ extended the car’s life for so many years. As this car proves, it just looks so good. Better build quality, fuel injected engines and the sort of luxury spec and cossetting ride only a good Jaguar can provide make these cars excellent classic tourers.
Despite all that, cherished examples in good order are getting hard to find. This car is exactly that. Attractively finished in Steel Blue metallic with a cream leather and walnut cabin, it is a factory-standard car that benefits from over €27,300 in restoration work since March 2022. The work by specialist Retro Cars in Suarlée included new radiator, fan and a/c compressor. The leather was treated and the burr walnut console replaced. There was also a full service, new steering rack, replacement calipers all round and brake hose. Other work included attention to the geometry, replacing the thermostat and both fuel tanks and pipes.
An independent valuation from 2023 attests to the car’s condition and can be inspected in the photos. There are a few very minor cosmetic points to note, but nothing that could not be either lived with or easily remedied. This is in an impressive example where the buyer gets to benefit from all that recent investment.
