The Mk2 Golf is rightfully praised as hot-hatch royalty, and the 8-valve GTi is one of the most clamoured-for by far. These little hatchbacks have proven remarkably enduring, but it's no secret many have been modified within an inch of their lives, hammered by enthusiastic drivers or, as so often happens with a Volkswagen, assaulted by the weather and blistered excessively.
