The Appeal
Honda first developed the monkey bike for their motorsports theme park, Tama Tech, in 1961. It was never meant for production, but by the 1970s, it had become a whole new branch for the marque's motorcycle lineup. These mini bikes were fun at their core, with high-mount fenders, perky little engines and tiny wheels. It made for an agile, fun little mount - even if one did have to crouch like a chimp if you were anything over 4ft tall.
The Honda Z50J Baja represents a particularly desirable variant of the iconic Monkey bike lineage, produced in limited numbers exclusively for the Japanese domestic market. With its distinctive white, red and blue graphics and purposeful styling cues including dual headlights and a high-mount front fender, the Baja edition stands apart from standard Z50 models and has become increasingly sought after by collectors worldwide.
Showing just 518 km on the odometer - believed to be genuine - and having remained with its original owner in Japan until 2025, this Z50J Baja has led a remarkably quiet life and is in excellent order. The selling dealer has recently prepared the motorcycle with a carburetor adjustment and fresh oil change, ensuring it's ready for enjoyment.
