The Appeal
Where its predecessors were all about sunny days, the R230 introduced the idea of a Mercedes ‘Sport Leicht’ for all seasons. Key top that versatility is its clever ‘Vario’ folding hard top, a system that has influenced a generation of roadsters.
These were popular cars, so finding one is not the issue. Sourcing the right specification, however, is. The current keeper of this low-owner, low mileage SL500 spent time finding it because he wanted a car with two sought-after options: the glass Panoramic roof and handsome multispoke SL55 alloys. That it is also in a desirable Obsidian Black over grey colour scheme adds to its appeal.
The car has covered just 54,000 miles in its 22 years, which is supported by MOT records. We are told that it has been well maintained. Recent work includes new engine harmonics damper, replacement batteries and new roof rams and pump, the majority of the work being done by Mercedes-Benz main dealers.
This is a clearly well kept and cherished R230 with the right specification to stand out from its peers. As an added bonus, the distinctive private plate is included.
