The Appeal
Anyone looking for a traditional and quintessentially British open two-seater sports car is likely to have the Triumph TR3 on their shortlist. The TR3 represented a logical but clear evolution of the roadster formula, offering more power and greater braking capability, particularly when equipped with the front disc brakes that were made standard from 1956 on. Based on a simple frame chassis, the TR3 is rugged and dependable, as borne out by its motorsport success – which continues today.
First registered in 1958, this is a very attractive example of what’s commonly called the ‘TR3A’ – a revised and highly successful derivative that benefitted from the more modern full-width grille, as well as exterior door handles and a lockable boot lid.
The red paint retains a high gloss, with all chrome components, including the 48-spoke wire wheels, bright. The addition of spotlights and the removal of the front bumper contribute to a more sporting appearance.
Inside, the interior is trimmed in cream, with ribs to the seats and deep red piping that complements the carpets. The car is fitted with the rear seat that enables additional passengers to enjoy top-down motoring. An attractive wood-rimmed steering wheel completes the cabin. The seller reports that all switchgear works, including for the spot lights and overdrive.
The seller has owned the car since 2024, and they state that it benefits from the recent replacement of brakes, wheel cylinders and wing mirrors, and was most recently serviced in March 2026.
A clip-on hood and side screens enable the car to be enjoyed in all weathers, and a clip-on tonneau cover is also included.
Beneath the bonnet, the engine bay is extremely tidy, and the seller states that car drives very well, with a pleasing exhaust note, and is reliable. It’s now ready for a new keeper to enjoy its charms.
