The Appeal
Few cars raise a smile of appreciation quite like an Isetta. The bubble-like styling, three-wheeled layout and Tardis-like interior give these gorgeous little machines the sort of character and magnetic appeal that virtually no other classic can match.
Thanks to changes in licensing laws, from 1961 BMW’s diminutive runaround got a bigger 300cc engine and US and UK export markets got the posh ‘Deluxe’ model denoted by its sliding side windows and full-length front and rear chrome bumpers.
This very pretty ‘61 Deluxe is an original UK-market model that has had just four registered keepers from new, the current one since 2017. DVLA records indicate that it was restored around 10 years ago, which is supported by photographs in the car’s history. Now finished in red and white with an ivory interior, it is a very tidy and nicely presented example.
Mechanically, it appears to be in a similar order. There are two thick folders of history with a number of recent invoices by specialists totalling over £6,000 of work. That covers attention to the electrics, brakes and carburettor.
This is a very tidy and pretty example of the later Isetta with lots of recent work to benefit the buyer.
