The Appeal
We're not sure what was in that Coventry water, but it's quite incredible what Jaguar achieved during the 1960s and '60s. The boys from Browns Lane produced world-beating cars in practically every segment, from sports cars to saloons, executive limousines to long-distance grand tourers. The MkIX was a big car weighing in at 1,800 kilos, but thanks to Jaguar's Le Mans-winning 3.8-litre XK engine, all-round disc brakes, and power steering, it drove like a car with half that mass. This truly embodied company founder Sir William Lyons' motto: "grace, space, and pace".
This 1961 right-hand drive, UK-specification example is not a restored car but, as the vendor describes it, a genuine "time warp", carrying 66 years of honest patina. It left the Browns Lane factory on 23rd June 1961 and spent over twenty-five years in the USA in long-term ownership before returning to the UK. The current keeper of twelve years has focused on mechanical integrity, and the car has been a regular sight at The Goodwood Revival and various classic car shows. For those who value originality and character over concours perfection, this MkIX is an unrepeatable find.image.png1.87 MB
