The Appeal
The Austin 11/55 was a variant of Alec Issigonis's celebrated ADO16 platform produced exclusively for the South African market. The "11/55" designation denotes its 1,100cc engine and 55 BHP output, a specification unique to cars built at the Leyland plant in Blackheath, Cape Province. These were never sold in the UK or Europe, making survivors very rare indeed.
This 1968 example has had just two former registered keepers since new and shows 69,774 miles on the odometer. Having spent its life in South Africa's dry climate, the car is said by the vendor to run well and to always attract attention.
