The Appeal
The Alfa Romeo Berlina was an executive version of the renowned Giulia saloon, created to appeal to customers looking for more space and luxury. It became the 2000 Berlina in 1971, when it received a larger version of the famous twin-cam engine and styling updates, including equal-sized headlights.
This 1974, right-hand drive example has been owned by the same family from new, and the seller states that it has always been stored in a closed garage. it has received mechanical upgrades, including a more modern Alfa Romeo two-litre engine with original five-speed gearbox. The seller states that a full service was conducted in December 2025, which included a new battery, tyres brake booster and master release clutch bearing.
The seller states that the exterior of the car was resprayed in deep metallic blue around 2024. Some small chips and scratches are present, and there is a small dent on the right rear panel. While the car is fitted with modern VX1 alloy wheels, the car will be provided with its original 14-inch wheels, which the seller states are in need of refurbishment.
The interior is largely original, with the seller stating that some minor refurbishment has been conducted in the past. An aftermarket, period-correct-style radio has been fitted. The seller says that the instrumentation is working, with the exception of the analogue clock, and that the fuel gauge occasionally gets stuck. A small tear in the stitching of the left front seat cushion and cracks in the dashboard are noted.
Beneath the bonnet, the car is fitted with a well-presented two-litre engine from a 1981 Alfa Romeo Alfetta, which the seller says was completely overhauled around 20,000 kilometres ago. It is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. The seller states that the engine starts and runs correctly, and that the car recently completed a 700 kilometre road trip without issue.
This attractive and sensitively updated Alfa Romeo Berlina should be on the list of anyone looking for a stylish, refined and engaging-to-drive 1970s saloon.
