The inspiration
It may not look like a technological trailblazer, but the 2CV is without doubt one of the most ingenious cars ever to roll off a European production line. Its remarkable simplicity—no frills—and distinctly French charm have helped fuel the collective imagination for generations. But what truly makes it essential is its long-travel suspension setup and low ride height. Conceived to float above ploughed fields and roads torn up by war, it was the vehicle that allowed France to get back on its feet.
This 1980 2CV wears the famous two-tone yellow and Bordeaux livery and has been owned by the current owner since 2016. During this time, it has been fully restored, as shown by the invoices. It’s been kept in a garage while also being used regularly.
The seller states that the bodywork is in very good condition and rates the cabin and the mechanicals very highly. Except possibly the seat belts, it’s specified that it remains compliant with its original configuration. A well-kept history file accompanies the car, including MOT certificates and accumulated invoices for compliance works completed over the past decade.

This sale is subject to Car & Classic’s general terms and conditions. By bidding and/or submitting an offer, you also agree to the following:
✓ The seller is registered as a private seller, meaning that consumer rights arising from the European consumer protection legislation do not apply. However, you are still covered by Car & Classic’s general terms and conditions.
✓ We ask that non-refundable fees are paid if you are the successful bidder or if your offer is accepted. Please refer to our FAQs and general terms and conditions for the specific rates.
✓ This vehicle is “sold as seen”, on a “take it as it is, where it is” basis and with no warranty. Photos and descriptions are provided for guidance only and it is customary to carry out a full vehicle inspection before purchase for your own peace of mind.
✓ VAT is included in the buyer’s deposit. VAT may or may not be included in the final offer or bid price, as specified in the listing.
✓ We want the transaction to run smoothly, just like you do—so cars and motorcycles registered in the United Kingdom and listed on Car & Classic are subject to an HPI check to verify that they show no basic database markers relating to insurance write-offs for damage or theft, and that they are not subject to a financial charge, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being scrapped as part of a total loss claim at the time the listing is posted on Car & Classic and we provide category scrap labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status, and it is always helpful to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer.
✓ Buyers are responsible for collection or delivery of the vehicle. Importing vehicles may result in additional customs duties and import taxes. If you’d like, we can recommend a third-party shipping company to help.
